Improve Your Mental Health With These Tips!

Mental health issues can affect anyone at anytime. However, there are ways you can try to ease the pain. Holy Cross wants to give you tips on how to improve your mental health easily and effectively.

 

Compliment Yourself

They say that you have to love yourself before you love others, but did you know that loving yourself can also better your mental health? Many people go about that their day being kind to everyone else, but forget to stop and give themselves a compliment. However, a quick compliment to yourself can lead to better mental health.

A lot of times we can be a little harsh in the things we do. We over analyze everything we do, and we’ll be overly critical in every little mistake we make. However, changing this mindset can do wonders for your mental health. Instead of focusing on the negatives, flip them to positives. Say “Okay, this went wrong – but I’ll take it as a lesson and improve.” Never sell yourself short.

 

Your Body Is a Temple

In order to take care of your mental health, it’s important to take care of your physical health as well. By keeping your body happy, you will be keeping your mind happy as well. Physical benefits aside, having a fit body will help boost your confidence levels and allow you to feel good about yourself.

In order to keep your body in shape in healthy, make sure you do the following things:

  • Keep meal portion sizes smaller
  • Drink at least a gallon of water per day
  • Exercise more – at least 20 minutes per workout
  • Sleep at least 8 hours a night
  • Limit alcohol consumption

By making these changes to your daily health, you will find your mental health improve as a result.

 

Occupy Your Time

One of the biggest ways we let mental health affect us is by giving it time to allow the issues to take over. This is because Americans currently have a very sedentary lifestyle, leaving a lot of down time. By doing ‘nothing’ our brains will actually go into overdrive and start overthinking and overanalyzing. This is when anxious and depressive thoughts could enter.

A way to help keep this from happening? Stay occupied. By staying occupied, we don’t give our brains the time to let these thoughts come in because we’re so focused on the tasks at hand. Play sports, volunteer at a shelter or spend time with the family out and about. You will find that those negative thoughts will stop entering your mind, and instead have a sense of fulfillment.

 

Mental health issues can affect any of us at any time. It’s hard to stop it from happening – many of us won’t even realize that it’s happening. However, there are some tips to ease the burden.
