4 Celebrities Who Have Been In a Foster Home

There’s a lot of misconception in regards to growing up in a foster home. Many people think that if someone grows up in foster care, they’re automatically written off to not be able to fulfill their life goals. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. In fact, many of the world’s biggest and brightest celebrities have been in foster care.

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs – truly among the greatest innovators of our time. If you don’t know who Steve Jobs is, chances are you have one of his creations in your pocket. You may even be reading this article on it. Steve Jobs was the leader of Apple up until the day he died. While Apple has always been a leader in technology, it wasn’t until Steve Jobs unveiled the original model of iPhone that Apple truly took over the technology world.

What many people don’t know about Steve Jobs is he was actually adopted soon after birth. His birth mother was a young single mother who was shamed into giving up her baby for adoption. Luckily, soon after birth, he was adopted by two loving parents who let him live a free-spirited life that flourished into the innovator he became.

If you’re over the age of 30, you remember Iced-T as one of hip-hop’s first big stars coming out of Los Angeles. If you’re younger than 30, then you most likely know Iced-T as the actor who portrays Detective Fin on Law & Order. It’s no secret that Ice-T had a troubled past growing up, and this is largely due in part to his history with foster care.

Ice-T’s parents both died at a young age, leaving him with no choice but to move to Los Angeles and bounce around from family member to family member. Eventually, he was seen as a ‘burden’ by his Aunt and put into a foster home in Southern Los Angeles. This was a rough area, where he would see violent things and gang activity – much of which he would describe in his future music career. It’s great to see how much his life has turned around!

Eddie Murphy

Even the king of comedy had a stint in foster care. While it was short-lived, Eddie Murphy has also experienced life in foster care. It was only for a year, but at 8 years old – a year can feel like an eternity.

At the age of 8 years old, Eddie Murphy was put into a foster home along with his brother due to his mother’s illness. While the stay was short-lived, he credits it with developing his sense of humor. This is common, as when you’re placed in a dark situation such as being taken from your normal life and put into a foster home, your sense of humor can be the shining light in yours and other people’s lives.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe is one of the world’s biggest celebrities to have ever lived. Decades after her passing, people are still in love with one of history’s biggest and most beautiful actresses. However, what many people do not know is that she had such a tough childhood.
