Record-high Fundraising Night for Lansing New Hope Community Center

LANSING, MI—February 28, 2019–Over $546,000 was raised and celebrated this past Wednesday at the annual Homeless No More fundraising event that benefits homeless veterans, children and adults at New Hope Community Center in Lansing, Michigan. This was an all-time high amount for the non-profit agency.

Homeless No More is the flagship fundraiser event that supports programs and services at the New Hope Community Center which has been serving the homeless population for decades.

Staff at Holy Cross Services, which recently stepped up and saved the Center from being shuttered by its previous operator, applauded the event and the organizers.

“What a wonderful evening with amazing people who helped make it such a great success,” said Sharon Berkobien, President and CEO of Holy Cross Services. “We want to thank everyone who came out—all the sponsors, the general public, and the great Lansing leadership committee who spearheaded the efforts.”Money raised makes up a significant portion of donations for the entire year, according to Sharon Dade, the facility’s associate director who sang the National Anthem at the Homeless No More event.

The New Hope Community Center has plenty of services well beyond the homeless shelter, including a community kitchen, health care, housing support and many others.

Homeless No More is the most important event we do for these services to ensure they continue,” Dade said. “It really does fill the gap in funding for our services.”Lansing became dangerously close to losing the homeless shelter in 2018, after admirably serving the community for 122 years. That is when Holy Cross Services stepped in and brought the operation into its already extensive network of programs and services throughout the state.

“It is a blessing for Holy Cross Services to be part of the Lansing community,” Berkobien said. “We are privileged to work with children, families, homeless and people who struggle with substance abuse in Lansing and all over Michigan. It’s amazing what can be done when people stand together to help our neighbors in need.”

The New Hope Community Center in 2017 served 7,349 individuals and provided emergency shelter for men, women and children. They also provide transitional housing for homeless veterans; hot, nutritious meals for anyone who is hungry, medical and dental care and a day center for the homeless.About Holy Cross Services
