Relationships are great – they make us happy and allow us to never truly feel alone. When you find that special someone, time almost feels as though it stops when you are around them. There is no better feeling than being in a comfortable relationship with a significant other.
However, not all relationships are happy. Many people feel stuck in a toxic relationship. However, many people don’t even realize they are in a toxic relationship. Today, Holy Cross Services will be giving you the signs of a toxic relationship.
Having a partner who shows signs of extreme jealousy can be your first warning sign that you are stuck in a toxic relationship. Having jealousy in a relationship isn’t abnormal – it’s only natural to have a slight sense of protectiveness over your partner. However – there is a line and many times this line is crossed.
When your partner starts becoming distrusting of your every action, then there is a problem. For example, if you can’t even work late without your partner accusing you of doing something you’re not supposed to, that creates a hostile and toxic environment.
When you come home, what do you feel? Do you feel energized and happy? Chances are you’re in a healthy relationship. However, if even thought of coming home leaves you feeling drained, then there is likely something wrong.
Feeling drained is often associated with toxicity in the relationship. The reason your mind feels drained is because it’s preparing itself for what awaits at home. Whether it’s feelings of anger, constant fighting or distrust – the feeling of being drained is often the result.
Lies are one of the biggest signs of being in a toxic relationship. While most people think that the harmful lies are the ones such as cheating on a spouse, that’s not necessarily the case. Little lies add up, and can create a toxic relationship.
Do you notice that your partner lies about seemingly simple things? Something as simple as not eating a piece of food that you were eating, or saying they’re working late when they’re actually hanging out with their friends? While these lies are seemingly small, they are a sign that maybe your partner can’t be as trusted as you once thought. Once your trust in your partner starts waning, the relationship can soon become a toxic relationship.
Unfortunately, not every relationship can be like what you see in fairy tales. Every relationship has issues. However, when you are in a toxic relationship, it may be time to re-evaluate.
