Lucas – 15

story-item Description

After just three months at Holy Cross Services, I’ve been able to turn my life around.
I first started smoking marijuana when I was nine years old and was using quite regularly by the time I was 12. For a long time, I had no desire to stop. I felt like my pot smoking wasn’t a big deal, considering it wasn’t as hard as most of the drugs people, like my father, did.
But coming here helped me realize the problems my drug habit had created. I’ve always valued my education and it quickly became obvious how smoking pot interfered with that. I failed Grade 7 because I was smoking drugs for the entire year. I struggled academically in Grade 8 as well because I didn’t stop the drug use. Once I quit smoking pot, though, I started doing much better at school.
All I really want to do is graduate. My education is the most important thing in my life. I’ve been taking the education courses at Holy Cross, which will help me get back to school. Now that I’m in Grade 9, I have three years ahead of me and I don’t want to waste any more time. I want to enrol in an accounting program. Maybe I can get a major in finance and a minor in business.
I’ve seen my parents struggle with getting an education, which is why I want to avoid a similar situation. Because of Holy Cross, I’m on my way. This place can really save your life.
